Description:
Mac is very well muscled and well toned, thanks to her Romulan heritage and a heavy workout schedule, she's extremely fit and toned. She has a burnished golden yellow skin, with strongly upswept eyebrows, a rather wide V shaped ridge over her nose that vanishes into her dark hair, and pointed ears. Her hair is not cut in the helmet style of Romulans, but is usually in an extremely fashionable pixie cut that may include spikes, waves, curls, or any other combination of elements. She has dark eyes that often glitter, like they're holding some interesting joke that no one else gets. She has a bright, beautiful smile that would drive the men wild if she were human.
Hair colour: Black
Eye colour: Brown
Interests:
Likes: Horseback riding, country music, dancing, Jiu-jitsu, a good beer with a few friends, and gorgeous guys.
Dislikes: Distrust of new people, Classical music, stereotypes directed at her personally, anything that makes her have a larger workload (Excluding promotions). A deep-seated fear of Klingons and a very mild claustrophobia resulting from the battle that sent her to live among humans, and her days trapped in an escape pod.
Limitations: Occasionally has trouble with closed in spaces. This has caused panic attacks a couple of times, but usually she's able to push through her fear and do what needs done anyway. Her species is her biggest limitation. It holds her back in her career, interactions with others, and life in general.
Strengths: Mac is close to nature, unlike many of those around her who grew up on Star ships. She, therefore, has a strong connection with many animals, and is able to ride even the wildest of them. She doesn't realize she uses some of her innate Romulan telepathy to accomplish this feat.
Quirks: Texan to the bone. Mac refuses to wear her uniform when off duty, and is usually seen in Jeans, a T shirt or button down shirt, a pair of boots and a cowboy hat. Sometimes with an enormous belt buckle. She's extremely flamboyant and can be a bit 'in your face' when she gets carried away.

Background:
It's not known to anyone that Macenta was born on Romulus. Her mother and father were both high ranking agents of the Tal Shiar. Both Majors, they were a marriage mostly determined by politics. They produced a daughter quickly, and named her Macenta. It was fully expected that when Macenta grew up to the appropriate age, she would join the Tal Shiar. Because of her lineage, she was nearly guaranteed, as long as nothing screwed it up. So, she followed her mother, Major Vreedak, around from post to post.
Macenta quickly showed herself to be intelligent, and a quick learner. She learnd to speak quickly, as well as reading and writing. Her mother was extremely demanding of the young girl. Macenta's future looked bright. Then came a battle with the Klingons. There were 3 Klingon Bird of Prey against the 2 Romulan Warbirds. The Klingons won handily. Macenta had been taught to go to the escape pods any time battle was joined, and this was what saved her life. When the ship was destroyed, the Escape Pod drifted away from the wreckage unnoticed. There was enough food and water to last a while. The girl drifted for days before the escape pod was picked up by a Federation Vessel.
The vessel was carrying a scientist, Michelle Serentis, the wife of an Admiral. Most of the officers on the ship refused to give the Romulan girl a second look, but Michelle took her in and started taking care of her while the Federation went through diplomatic channels to try to return her to her people. The Romulan Star Empire insisted that no children were ever lost, and that they had no desire to have them back.
Macenta was looking at an extremely bleak future. Her people wouldn't take her back, the Humans didn't want her and had no place for her, and in many places on earth she'd be killed on sight. So Michelle took her home to her husband, who became enamored with her immediately as well. The couple couldn't have children on their own due to a medical condition Michelle had. Any pregnancy would threaten her life. So, the pair saw this as destiny and adopted the young girl, dubbing her Macenta Serentis.
Early on, there were problems. The 4 year old Macenta was all Romulan. Fiercely passionate, wanting her mother and her people back. With time, memories faded. The beauty of children though, was that they didn't see race of skin color. She made a friend, Mandy, who helped her get over her initial hesitations. Then her parents bought her a horse, and she found something on this planet she was really, really good at: Horseback riding. She was a tough little girl, and began helping with the raising and training of horses on her families ranch. She began to accept her new parents, then to love them.
Eventually her Romulan Heritage became little more than a vague reminder that she faced in the mirror every day. She grew her hair long, and adopted the ways of her new home. Jeans, boots, and long wavy hair. She went to school, and though there were some problems with the elementary school kids seeing her as 'different', she grew, flourished, and adopted human ways. She remembered her mother and father, remembered Romulus and her old homes, but they became distant and far removed. She developed a circle of friends, and became known as 'Mac'.
Finally Mac's family moved to Houston to be closer to her father's work. Mac went to High School for the first day in a new city where everyone didn't know her, and was instantly ridiculed among the kids as a Romulan. The secret was out, and it was too late to put it back. Hatred simmered, and Mac couldn't make friends or get comfortable in this school. Finally it came to a head when a group of particularly violent kids beat her badly enough to send her to a hospital. It was her first real taste of prejudice.
After that, her parents transferred her to a new school, and Mac cut her hair into the standard Vulcan haircut. Frightened of the other kids, she became extremely stoic, trying hard not to show any emotion whatsoever. It didn't always work, but Mac was more accepted as a Vulcan than she ever had been as a Romulan. For two years she masqueraded as a Vulcan, and the refusal to show any emotion became deeply embedded, and comes out from time to time again.
Then she graduated, and came to a decision. For 15 generations, the Serentis family had always had a member in the military. Now Macenta was the last remaining member of that family. So, she applied to Starfleet Academy. It turned out not to be as cut and dry as she'd hoped. There was a lengthy investigation, and it took her father pulling strings with some of his friends and co workers to get her in. Being accepted to Starfleet Academy was the happiest day of her life though.
She entered with everyone knowing she was Romulan. The jig was up. The Vulcan act wouldn't work here. None of the other Cadets would go near her, afraid she was some sort of test, or that if they did go near her they'd be considered a traitor. During semester break, Mac went home, and told her parents that she wanted to drop out. Her father was the one that stepped in, telling her that she couldn't run from prejudice her entire life. If she did, she'd never stop running, or never leave the country. If Mac ever wanted to see the stars again, she'd have to get off her ass and make people see her heart, rather than the ridges on her forehead.
Mac still almost dropped out, but when faced with the PADD that would actually do it, she ended up breaking it (and paying for it). There was no way that she was going to let them beat her dream out of her! Starfleet Academy was not at all prepared for what hit next semester. Mac went far to the other end of the spectrum. She cut her hair short, banishing the bangs entirely in favor of a short pixie cut that showed off her face, particularly the forehead. Angled sideburns that showed off her cheekbones, and a flamboyant personality as big as Texas and threw total confidence right in their faces. Suddenly everyone in the academy who didn't know her before did now. Mac was back to her old self. She specialized in security, and suddenly excelled in everything she did. She took up extracurricular activities for the first time, and as though flaunting her differences, minored in Klingon. There were no classes for Romulan, but she self taught herself, brushing up on what was still her native language,a and the language she still spoke disturbingly well.
Mac made friends, excelled, and finished the academy seventh in her class of 200. The only thing that kept her from finishing first was the wasted first semester.
She was stationed on board the nautilus, but her loud, flamboyant personality didn't work quite as well there. She had to learn to tone it down, but not before she got 2 reprimands. The first she merely slept in, and wouldn't have been worried about had it not been Ensign Serentis. The second came when a fellow officer called her a Romulan traitor, which she promptly turned around, calling her a blind idiot if she couldn't look past some forehead ridges and see who was beneath. That ship couldn't get rid of her fast enough. The Captain put her off at the next Spaceport.
Her father stepped in to get her a second chance, and Mac was transferred onto the Pathfinder. Now that she had a better idea what was expected of her, she did much better, knowing when and how to tone it down, while still being true to herself. Her time on the Pathfinder balanced out the disaster that was the Nautilus. This Captain didn't trust her at first either, but over time Mac gained her trust. She received 3 commendations for impeccable service, and going above and beyond the call of duty. She saved the Chief Engineers life at one point, which also got her a meritorious service award.
A similar fate awaited her on her next posting, the Pegasus. She was distrusted and reviled at first, but in time managed to gain the crews trust. On an away mission here the crew was captured by a hostile but primitive native race. Here Mac's talent with animals came in handy. She managed to evade capture, but then figure out how to ride one of their larger and wilder war beasts. Just like riding a bull back home! Riding one of the war beasts into the tribes village scattered the tribe-- particularly the guards on the away team, enough that Mac was able to toss down a good old fashioned pocket knife so they could get out. Needless to say, the Captain was impressed, and Mac was quickly accepted.
She served a very contented tour aboard the Pegasus before she was transferred to the USS Merlin.
Personality:
Flamboyant and loud, Mac's personality is unpredictable and can change like the wind. She can and will go from a completely neutral personality to extremes in a heartbeat, which is extremely useful for prisoner interrogations.
Among crewmates and friends, she's every bit a texan girl. She speaks with a drawl, often uses terms like "Howdy" and "ya'll" out of habit. She's extremely loyal, and will do anything for a crewmate, whatever bad blood may be between them. She's cavalier, clever, witty, and almost always has a retort for whatevers said, because--really-- she's heard it all before. She has no illusions of romance or living happily ever after. At least that's what everybody sees when they first met her. When she's challenged upon first meting by someone new, and she often is, she usually uses the tagline "Is it me as a person, or a question as to wether I AM a person?"
That's her armor. It's skin tight, and covers her from head to toe. That's the personality everyone sees, the mask she wears, but it's not her.
It's hard to get under that armor and get her to pull off the phaserproof mask she's adopted, but once you do, Mac is a very different person. She's not as confident as she lets on, with memories from her early childhood that are still there, haunting her. She secretly wonders what happened to her mother, who she still loves on some level, though she's terrified to even mention the possibility to anyone. The real Mac is a survivor, and strong, who knows that to survive among humans she has to give up her Romulan heritage entirely, which she did years ago. Nothing sweet or innocent here, Mac's pointed ears have put her in the hospital often enough that she knows life isn't going to be fair for her, or a picnic. You'll never hear her complain about the many times she's passed over for promotion and just does her best to get by
